I haven't posted anything the past couple weeks because of the holidays and I was gone from the course for a few days working at home.
As for the project on the back 9, #11 & #17 greens were sodded on 12/20 and then the contractor has been gone since then for their holiday break.
It hasn't been a ghost town around here though during that time. Our maintenance staff has been hard at work stripping the sod from low areas in the Fairways, raising those low areas with soil, then replacing the sod with good sod we have taken from #15,16 & 18 greens. If you remember the summer of 2011 we had to sod those 3 greens because of the combination of excessive moisture from thunderstorms followed by the extreme heat. Since the sod on those 3 greens is only about 15 months old, they haven't been contaminated with a lot poa yet, making this a very good quality stand of turf still. We didn't want to see this sod go to waste and just be buried under soil elsewhere on the course. The staff has been working hard for almost 3 weeks now stripping the sod from those 3 greens and using it in fairways 14,17,18,1,2,4,&6. We will continue this process until we have used all the sod possible.
The contractor is scheduled to be back on property on 1/2 with 2 separate crews now. They will continue with the greens for most of January before switching gears to work on the drainage project on holes 11&12.
Again continue to check back often as I will be updating this blog frequently as the project starts to ramp up into high gear for next couple months. It's hard to believe at the moment, but spring is right around the corner.
