I haven't posted anything the past couple weeks because of the holidays and I was gone from the course for a few days working at home.
As for the project on the back 9, #11 & #17 greens were sodded on 12/20 and then the contractor has been gone since then for their holiday break.
It hasn't been a ghost town around here though during that time. Our maintenance staff has been hard at work stripping the sod from low areas in the Fairways, raising those low areas with soil, then replacing the sod with good sod we have taken from #15,16 & 18 greens. If you remember the summer of 2011 we had to sod those 3 greens because of the combination of excessive moisture from thunderstorms followed by the extreme heat. Since the sod on those 3 greens is only about 15 months old, they haven't been contaminated with a lot poa yet, making this a very good quality stand of turf still. We didn't want to see this sod go to waste and just be buried under soil elsewhere on the course. The staff has been working hard for almost 3 weeks now stripping the sod from those 3 greens and using it in fairways 14,17,18,1,2,4,&6. We will continue this process until we have used all the sod possible.
The contractor is scheduled to be back on property on 1/2 with 2 separate crews now. They will continue with the greens for most of January before switching gears to work on the drainage project on holes 11&12.
Again continue to check back often as I will be updating this blog frequently as the project starts to ramp up into high gear for next couple months. It's hard to believe at the moment, but spring is right around the corner.

Construction Progress 12/14
The project is going great so far this week. As I talked the other day the greens mix started to arrive first thing Thursday morning and by 3pm the cavity was filled and they were beginning to float the surface and prepare the green for sod. Also yesterday on #11 the bunker liner and drainage installation was completed and the bunker on the left side started being filled with the new sand. With this work almost completed it means that #11 greens complex will be ready for sod next week, depending on the weather. We will sod the bunker faces and the rough surrounding the green early in the week and finish by sodding the green late next week.
Part of the crew moved on to #17 to begin digging out that green. This was finished by the end of the day and they were able to roll the sub base before the end of the day.

Construction progress 12/12
We are in construction mode full swing this week with the back 9 now closed. As you saw last week #11 green complex is in the process of being renovated. The green has been dug out, the drainage and gravel base installed, and the bunkers are being reshaped. As you can see from the pictures the bunkers have been reshaped to resemble the original design and the drainage and bunker liner are being installed this morning. The liner is used on the steep slopes to help hold the sand in place during rain storms. The particular liner we have chosen worked really well in #7 this past summer so we are using the same product. The first loads of greens mix will start to arrive this afternoon and #11 green cavity with be filled and ready for sod by the end of tomorrow. Please check back often during the winter for updates on our progress.
